Best Places To Stay in Lanzarote

There are hundreds of accommodation options for anyone planning to visit the island of Lanzarote this year. With apartments, villas and hotels to suit all budgets located in all of the main resorts as well as across the countryside.

Lanzarote has been a tourist hot spot since the early 1970´s – when for a time it was considered as the new in place to visit. Before becoming something of a byword for package tourism during the 1980´s. But today the island has emerged as a popular destination with all types of travellers, happily accommodating independent tourists alongside all inclusive holidaymakers.

That´s partly because Lanzarote has not been submerged by tourism and still retains much of its original character intact, especially in the north of the island. Which remains resolutely agricultural and rural. With the best Lanzarote villas and hotels concentrated in the main resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca in the south.

Puerto del Carmen is a popular choice with British and Irish holidaymakers. It´s very easy to get to from the main airport at Arrecife, with transfers taking just ten minutes or so. A welcome factor after a four hour flight. And is home to the 6km long Avenida de las Playas which is the main strip running right through the resort. This is a great place to stroll along and view the beaches and restaurants. Whilst there are also plenty of bars to visit once you have worked up a thirst.

Most of the best villas in Puerto del Carmen tend to be concentrated in the residential zone of Los Mojones whilst the Avenida is where you will find apartment complexes and hotels. But wherever visitors stay Puerto del Carmen is sure to provide a sun filled break on Lanzarote. Such is its popularity that tourists come back here year after year. With many investing in the Lanzarote property market as a result, either using their purchase as a holiday home or to rent out to other tourists.

Playa Blanca is the second largest resort on the island and is a little further away from the airport with a transfer time of about forty minutes. Head here if you like to explore great beaches and relax in the sun. As this destination boasts a multitude of both. It was also created as recently as the 1990´s, so it’s a slightly more modern and well maintained resort than Puerto del Carmen as a result.
