Diving with sharks in Borneo

Mabul is an island that is closest to Sipadan Island, so once we got there and checked in our resort Sipadan Water Village, we spent our day diving nearby mabul exploring the macro life. The diving was very nice there. But the next day, we were ready to set off to the magnificent Sipadan Island.

It is a small island that rises around 600 meters above the ocean floor. It hasdiver underwater one of the world’s most prolific ecosystem with more than 3,000 species of marine life and about a hundred different types of corals. Diving here is limited to 120 dives per day to conserve this natural wonder but we had reserved our spot and Sipadan permit well in advance.

We made three dives at Sipadan with a break for lunch and snack on the island itself and let me tell you that the underwater scenary was absolutely amazing. The visibility was a bit low but the outburst of the marine life that we got to see made up for each and every bit of the trip. I loved the part where I swam near the turtles who seemed to be very friendly and not afraid of us at all. We saw a few pelagics such as hammerhead sharks, reef sharks, black tips, white tips and so many turtles.
