Enjoying Holidays In Lanzarote

There are plenty of spots around Europe with great beaches and interesting attractions. But none can match the island of Lanzarote for dramatic and unconventional beauty. As this is the spot where volcanoes rained ash and lava for six years non stop during the 1730´s. Creating one of the most remarkable holiday destinations around.

Lanzarote comes as a surprise to travellers who thought that the island was all about package tourism and British bars. As this cool Canary Island boasts a wealth of cultural attractions and a landscape that has starred in numerous movies. Such as the recent Almodovar release Broken Embraces.

During the 1980´s the island gained the underserved tag of Lanzagrotty and a reputation as a bit of a downmarket destination. But this image is now as out of date as flared trousers – as today Lanzarote boasts a wealth of smart and chic accommodation along with loads for visitors to do and see.

There are plenty of great self catering options in the countryside, particularly in the north which is regarded as the real soul of the island. As this region has been the least touched by tourism. Here visitors can book a break at the Eco Finca in Arrieta, one of the most luxurious villas in Lanzarote. Where guests can pick their own organic fruit and veg direct from the garden. As well as enjoying donkey rides and walks on the beach which is just a five minute stroll away.

Other off the beaten track hot spots includes the northern village and beach of Famara, which is a real hot favourite with surfing fraternity. Here the streets are paved with sand and life takes place at a very leisurely pace.

For those seeking a more conventional holiday Playa Blanca in the south is an ideal resort – as it is home to a large selection of good quality Lanzarote hotels. Such as the Princes Yaiza and the Timanfaya Palace. Visitors can also book one of the many good value villas in Playa Blanca that are available for rent. With some great properties in areas such as Costa Papagayo and Parque del Rey.

Lanzarote´s volcanoes are the islands hottest attraction but tourists shouldn’t miss the work of Cesar Manrique and other natural wonders such as the Valley of 1000 Palms and the green lagoon at El Golfo. Head to Teguise for a slice of history and the capital of Arrecife for more sophisticated shopping options.
